There are numerous infections that we face in our lifetime. But not all of them are worth going to a doctor. However, these infections are also difficult to live with even if it is merely going to last a week. It makes us feel miserable and terrible. But natural home remedies tend to find you some relief. We’ve listed some of them here.
1. Throat infections
Throat infections are difficult to tackle with. There is intense pain in the throat and it’s even difficult to drink liquids. It goes away itself in a few days but you can actually get rid of it sooner than that. Inhaling moist air helps to soothe a sore throat. Take a steamy shower, or lean over a pot of hot water with a towel covering your head, and inhale the steam. A few drops of peppermint essential oil in the water will give an additional calming effect on your throat and cough. Refrain from smoking and also from being around smokers. To make a real elixir for your throat, you need to take ginger root and pour boiling water over it. When the water cools, add lemon juice and honey (don’t add them when the water is too hot as it ruins their healing properties). Drink this warm, do not let it cool too much. Drink this several times a day, and you’ll get well quickly. If you don’t own all of these ingredients, just use whichever ones you have, as they are great even by themselves.
2. Sinus infections
These are the infections that will make you feel sick like hell. It gives a combined feeling of facial pain, headache, a feeling of nasal stuffiness, and fever. Applying a warm compress to your face for 5-10 minutes will start the sinus flow and reduce congestion. Use a saltwater rinse to keep your nasal passages clean and to kill bacteria. To prepare this at home, you just need to dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm boiled water. Spice up your food as it’ll help you to open your nasal passages. Pressing the point between your eyebrows for one minute and then the points on both sides of your nostrils will help you relieve pain and reduce congestion.
3. Skin infections
This is something no one would be willing to sustain. Skin infections come with a lot of bans. You’re not allowed to touch that area as the infection might just spread. Also, you won’t be willing to go outside with that pity infection over your pretty face. The causal agents for skin infection may be bacteria, virus, fungi or a parasite. Each of them needs to be treated specifically. Whatever be the infection, cold compressing will reduce itching. For making it more effective, you can use apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water as it has antibacterial properties. Make some changes to your diet. Eat more foods and spices with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects such as garlic, ginger, honey, and turmeric. Eat yogurt every day as the probiotics it contains help to fight against bad bacteria. You can also apply any of them to your skin directly for a better effect. Coconut oil is another nature’s gift as it has antifungal properties and soothes the skin very well. Apply it to the affected skin area a few times a day, and you’ll soon get relief. Tea tree oil has antiseptic qualities that kill an infection and prevent it from spreading. You can mix it with olive oil or aloe gel, and rub it gently into your skin. It will help you to recover much more quickly.
4. Eye infections
These are really painful as we perceive everything from our eyes. And when it suffers from an infection, you are always willing to get rid of it as soon as possible. Eye infections happen when bacteria, fungi, or viruses invade the eyeball or surrounding area and cause a lot of unpleasant symptoms such as itching, swollen eyes, eye discharge, red eyes, and more. The first thing you need to do is to exercise your eyes. This means that you’ve to rotate your eyeballs in a clockwise and then anti-clockwise direction. Move them up and down, left and right for 10-15 minutes. This increases the blood flow and helps to fight the infection. Use baby shampoo to clean your eyes as it will not be irritating to your eyes and will wash off the dirt much more effectively. You can make an eyewash yourself by mixing salt with boiled water. Use it a few times a day to relieve discomfort, balance the pH levels in your eyes, and to remove bacteria.
5. Foodborne infections
These are very common as many people aren’t aware of what they should eat and what not. But it is painful. It comes with a combined effect of vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Your body is losing too much water than usual, so it is very important to drink a lot of liquids. It’ll help you stay hydrated and will also wash away infections. Try sports drink to replace the minerals lost. Activated charcoal is a well-known remedy for foodborne infections, and it’s very effective, so don’t neglect it. It perfectly absorbs toxins and bacteria and helps your body to get rid of them. If you suffer from diarrhea, you should eat bananas as they are rich in potassium, which provides great relief from diarrhea.
